Structural Engineer, R&D
FluidStack — Austin, Texas, United States · Remote · Junior
Role description
Role Overview
The Structural Engineer, R&D will own the structural analysis of the machine, design pressure-containing structures, and carry them from first calculation to hardware people are willing to stand next to. The role requires expertise in pressure vessel and containment design, rotordynamics, and modal work.
What You Will Do
The day-to-day responsibilities include taking a pressure-containing design from calculation through to a fabricated article, running FEA on rotating hardware, and correlating it against strain gauge, spin-pit, or test data. The engineer will also design test cell structures and fixturing that carry the article, the drive, and the loop under load.
Why It Might Be a Fit
The ideal candidate will have experience in owning a containment or burst case and making the argument for why it holds to people whose safety depended on it. The role requires a professional engineer license and expertise in flight and propulsion structures, rotordynamics, and bearing dynamics.
Requirements
- Professional Engineer license
- Experience in pressure vessel and containment design
- Expertise in rotordynamics and modal work
- Experience in flight and propulsion structures
- Experience in high-cycle fatigue and fracture on rotating hardware
Benefits
- Pay equity and transparency
- Confirmation email once application has successfully been accepted
