Staff Mechanical Engineer - Data Center Cooling
Lambda — San Francisco, California, United States · Hybrid · Staff+ · $120k - $180k/yearly
Role description
Role Overview
Lambda, a leader in AI cloud infrastructure, seeks a Staff Mechanical Engineer to design and develop cooling systems for large-scale AI data centers. The role requires expertise in thermal, hydraulic, and heat-transfer calculations, as well as experience with direct-to-chip liquid cooling and high-density cooling systems.
What You Will Do
The successful candidate will own cooling-system standards, design thermal paths, and translate server requirements into coolant temperature and flow requirements. They will also develop and review P&IDs, equipment specifications, and engineering calculations.
Why It Might Be a Fit
The ideal candidate has experience designing cooling systems for data centers and mission-critical facilities, with expertise in hydronic design, heat transfer, and pumping. They should also be familiar with CFD, Pipe-Flo, AFT Fathom, Revit, or comparable engineering tools.
Requirements
- Experience designing cooling systems for data centers, mission-critical facilities, central plants, or large industrial environments
- Understanding of hydronic design, heat transfer, pumping, heat exchangers, chilled-water systems, and heat-rejection equipment
- Experience with direct-to-chip liquid cooling, CDUs, technology cooling-water loops, or other high-density cooling systems
- Ability to develop and review P&IDs, equipment specifications, mechanical layouts, and engineering calculations
- Ability to model system capacity, flow, pressure loss, temperature approach, and performance across varying operating conditions
Benefits
- Generous cash & equity compensation
- Health, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents
- Wellness and commuter stipends for select roles
- 401k Plan with 2% company match (USA employees)
- Flexible paid time off plan
