Turbomachinery Engineer, R&D
FluidStack — Austin, Texas, United States · Remote · Senior · $100k - $200k/yearly
Role description
Role Overview
The Turbomachinery Engineer, R&D will design and build machines that reject more than 10 gigawatts of heat, targeting 10 GW of compute in 2027 and 30 GW the year after. The team will work on machine architectures, thermofluids problems, and thermal energy storage.
What You Will Do
The engineer will own the aerodynamic design of the centrifugal compressor, set the machine architecture, design the expansion turbine, and carry the rotor through rotordynamics.
Why It Might Be a Fit
The ideal candidate will have experience designing turbomachines, working with rotordynamics, and making architecture calls early with incomplete data. They will be passionate about the problem space and willing to work at high intensity to push the frontier forward.
Requirements
- Designed a radial or axial turbomachine that got built and ran
- Taken a stage from mean-line through CFD and back
- Worked a rotordynamics problem through to resolution on a real shaft with real bearings
- Made an architecture call early with incomplete data
- Read a test map and changed the design
Benefits
- Pay equity and transparency
- Equal Employment Opportunity Employer
- Consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, and protected veterans' status
